Menopause – When does it happen?

Menopause, also known as menopause, is a natural phase in a woman's life when menstruation stops and hormone production changes significantly. For most women, menopause occurs between the ages of 45 and 55, with the average age for Danish women being around 52. Menopause can be divided into three phases: peri-menopause (before menstruation stops completely), menopause (when menstruation has been absent for a year), and post-menopause (after menstruation has stopped).

What symptoms are common?

Symptoms of menopause vary greatly from woman to woman and can begin several years before the last menstrual period. Common symptoms include:

  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Mood swings and sleep problems
  • Dry mucous membranes
  • Weight gain
  • Low libido
  • Bleeding disorders

The symptoms occur as a result of the levels of estrogen and progesterone beginning to drop.
