TBE (Tick-borne Encephalitis) is a serious viral disease transmitted through tick bites and can lead to inflammation of the brain. The disease occurs in areas with many ticks, and the risk of infection is increasing, especially in forested areas in Europe and Asia. An effective way to protect yourself against TBE is by getting vaccinated, and ValidaHealth offers a complete vaccination course for both children and adults.
What is TB?
TBE virus can cause serious neurological damage, and there is no specific treatment for the infection itself, making vaccination the best prevention. After a tick bite, TBE virus can be transmitted to humans, and the first symptoms are similar to flu with fever, headache and muscle aches. In severe cases, the virus can affect the central nervous system and lead to inflammation of the brain (encephalitis), spinal cord (myelitis), or the membranes covering the brain (meningitis).
How does the TBE vaccination work?
The vaccination course at ValidaHealth consists of three shots. After the first two shots, you are protected for up to one year, and after the third shot, protection is extended to 3-5 years. Revaccination is recommended every 3-5 years to maintain protection.
At ValidaHealth you can book an appointment for your TBE vaccine online, and we offer vaccinations in our clinic or at your home. The vaccination is automatically registered in your vaccination card on Sundhed.dk.
Who should get a TBE vaccine?
If you live or travel in areas where ticks are common, especially in forested areas in Scandinavia, Central Europe and Russia, you should consider getting vaccinated against TBE. Children from 1 year of age and adults can be vaccinated, and those who spend a lot of time outdoors are particularly at high risk.
